With the recent launch of our REFLEX platform, we thought we’d have a little fun this fall and throw the town a Hardware Hackathon to test out new “triggering” applications for the Internet of Things (IoT). As an advantageous startup, most of our team members have participated or contributed to a hackathon in the past, so we put our heads together and mapped out a solid weekend of hacking over September 12th-14th in Milwaukee, WI.
A little background on the host, Scanalytics provides consumer insights to businesses through proprietary floor sensors that analyze foot traffic to identify patterns and trends in behaviors. Our intelligent mat can understand how many people are coming in and out of a room, what their paths look like or how long it takes them to approach a product, among many other valuable insights. To keep the innovation moving forward, we opened up our API to allow integration with existing people-counting technologies to help complement and engage within the industry. After experiencing early success in this experiment, we started connecting anything and everything that collects information to the platform to enable “smart” interactivity.
Too cool to contain, we decided to open up the floor to more minds to see what else we can activate through collaborative innovation and creativity! This intelligent API truly has an endless horizon of applications, and we’re thrilled to see what you can come up with! Some segment examples include:
Supply Chain Management
According to a recent report by the IDC, the market for IoT solutions will more than triple from $1.9 trillion in 2013 to $7.1 trillion forecasted for 2020. We’ve clearly just discovered the tip of the iceberg on a market that will quickly and directly become a part of our everyday lives in the modern world.
This movement’s got a lot of blue water, and we want to team up with those inspired hustlers looking to discover within it! The whole Scanalytics team will be hanging around the hackathon as a resource for any questions or discussions you might have while hacking. And of course, the venue will be fully stocked with creative fuel (caffeine/beer/pizza/snacks) in addition to the suite of games (ping pong/video games/cornhole/darts) for the necessary mental breaks to avoid those woeful walls.
