IFMA International Facility Managers Association Facility Fusion Conference Influencing Change, Building Toward Our Future

PRESS RELEASE HERE

IoT solutions play an important role in emergency preparedness

Scanalytics Inc. co-founder and CEO Joe Scanlin joins a select panel at the IFMA International Facility Managers Association Facility Fusion Conference Influencing Change, Building Toward Our Future. Networked, intelligent and adaptable smart building solutions enhance efficiency and improve occupant experiences. Taking it to the next level, the panel will discuss the increasingly relevant topic of how IoT solutions play an important role in emergency preparedness and how facility managers can leverage smart building solutions to improve facility operations, safety and security.

real-time occupancy solutions

Scanalytics Inc. is an associate member of the Intel Internet of Things Solutions Alliance, a globally diverse ecosystem of Intel-based solutions providers offering a wide range of smart, scalable, interoperable, and sustainable IoT solutions that accelerate deployment of intelligent devices and end-to-end analytics. The technologies of Alliance members offer real-time occupancy solutions. Understanding space utilization based on actual occupancy drives growth and better space planning. Intel Marketing Manager, Gustavo Reyna, will serve as the IFMA Facility Fusion panel moderator and Joe Scanlin will be joined on the panel by Chandan Chowdhury, CEO of Feedback Solutions, and Ron Victor, CEO of IoTium.

actionable data for companies to optimize their operations

With the mission of revolutionizing presence detection in physical spaces, Scanalytics Inc. smart building platform leverages sensor and IoT software solutions to anonymously gather information about how people are interacting within a physical space and converting that information into actionable data for companies to optimize their operations. This valuable business intelligence allows companies to increase efficiency and improve operations.

Scanalytics Inc. looks forward to demonstrating what’s new and upcoming in technology with the possibilities of connecting, collecting and analyzing good data from truly intelligent spaces as part of the IFMA Emergency Technology for the Built Environment Showcase. March 20-21 in Chicago.

Dynamic Use of Floor Sensors

Posted by Scanalytics Inc. on 3/13/18 7:22 AM

Valuable business intelligence to increase efficiency, safety and improve operations.

If you own a building, do you know where the people are in the building?

You may have a general idea based on the type of businesses located in the structure and the hours at which they operate, but what if you had access to dynamic information regarding exactly where each individual was at any given time? What could you do with that information? The technology exists to give you a perfect picture of how people are moving in your space and where they are – it’s up to you to harness that power and you can do amazing things with it!

Data for people management to energy conservation

On a basic level, sensors (such as a motion detector) can do simple things like turning on the lights when a person enters the room. But more sophisticated sensors, such as those placed in the flooring itself, can receive information regarding how many people are in the room and exactly where they are. This data can be used for a multitude of purposes, from people management to energy conservation.

smart management

Let’s say you own or manage a museum. One of your priorities is going to be setting up exhibits in such a way that people can move through them without over-crowding. With flooring sensors connected to analytic software you can tell how people are moving through the space, including the amount of time each individual pauses to look at a piece and the path they take to the next one. This information can be used to adjust the layout of the exhibit if crowding occurs at any location to move people through the space in the most effective way.

in case of emergency

Flooring sensors can also be used to manage energy usage and security in the building as a whole. For instance, in a hotel with multiple conference rooms and event spaces, flooring sensors can determine how many people are in each room and where they are. Heating and air conditioning units may then be programmed to dynamically adjust the temperature based on the number of warm bodies in each space. This works much more efficiently than a thermostat, which can only adjust the temperature after it changes. Security and safety are enhanced by flooring sensors because the sensors are able to relay the locations of occupants in a building. In the case of a fire or other emergency, such dynamic data can help save lives.

monitor from any location

A building smart enough to know the location of its occupants can provide detailed information used to manage the systems functioning in the space. The building’s management staff can program the systems to automatically respond to certain conditions, making it much more efficient to operate the building and providing a dynamic perspective on how the building is being used. Since the data can be sent to either a control center or a mobile “dashboard,” it gives managers the freedom to monitor the building’s use from any location – or even while on vacation!
